疫苗或感染誘發的抗體之所以能夠從一眾外來者中辨識和捕捉新冠病毒(SARS-CoV-2),根據的不是病毒的全貌,而是突起在病毒表面的棘蛋白(spike protein,也稱刺突蛋白、棘突蛋白、棘狀蛋白)的某個顯露在外的部分。
問題是棘蛋白的結構會隨著新冠病毒變異(病毒遺傳物質RNA在複製過程出錯)而出現大大小小的改變,當這個變化大到讓抗體無法精準辨識它時,抗體攔截病毒的效力就會降低,於是打了疫苗還是被突破感染,或感染過又重覆感染的發生率就會提高。 ...
