臺灣大學許瑞祥教授的研究大致可分為三個階段:1981~1989年,以形態分類、生化特性、交配育種研究靈芝,開發生產和研究用的菌株;1990~1999年,建構靈芝屬的分子生物學鑑定系統;2000年迄今,以靈芝特殊基因的開發應用為主,將靈芝裡的功能性蛋白和酵素單獨開發應用。
